The news of historical reality is sometimes sustained by records that confirm its degree of truth. There have been times when history has erased these testimonies, giving place to other truths or black holes. These films were made over the black holes to challenge certain truths.

In Memory / Gedenken
Katrin Eissing & Melina Pafundi, DE,2018, 16mm, silent, 8min.
To titles and material remains of a film by Nikolaus Tscheschner KALMENHOFKINDER- ERMORDET UND VERGESSEN that we discovered in LaborBerlin, we both had personal references. During our work on these remaining pieces, we felt the need to commemorate the children in the children’s specialist departments Nazi Germany once again. This work is an attempt.

Future, a Greek-Argentinean Film
Melina Pafundi, DE, 2019, 16mm, digital sound.
What comes from the high seas to the shores could be plastic, radioactivity or remains. One night, a woman became stranded in the Mediterranean. She has brought evidence from her journey, and a certain cryptically survival message. Although, the tone of the statement she has made cannot be translated.

When the androgynous Child
Melina Pafundi, AR/DE, 2019, 9 min, digital, color.
When the child speaks from his or her androgyny – which is neither truth nor appearance, neither male nor female, but all at once – they will return to the places where they have belonged. He or she remembers and claims their identity as a foreigner, refugee, bilingual, rejected for not being a man or woman at all.

And another film to be announced.

Melina Pafundi is an Argentinean Filmmaker and film restorer living in Berlin. The sense of the intersection between image archeology and film philosophy is at the centre of her oeuvre. She works mainly on analog film support. Installations, Film performance, and hybrid cinematic forms are the expressions that her works adopt, addressing the emergence of the image as a constitutive phenomenon of epistemologies.

The project is generously supported by: Kulturrådet - Arts Council Norway, Tromsø kommune, Fylkeskommune and Nordic Council of Ministers’ Culture and Art Programme.
And its part of the project series "Expanding North" a collaboration of 4 Baltic/Nordic labs: BAL in Riga (LV), LIFT in Torronto (CA) and Filmverkstaden in Vaasa (FI).
